The Okanagan Valley has roughly 3000 sport and trad climbing routes, many of these routes have aging hardware that will need replacement in the coming decade.
There is an environmental impact of climbing which concerns land managers, and in some fashion it's worth considering what our impact is, and how to reduce it, both to protect the natural environments we love to recreate in, but also our access to these areas.
A larger united organization across the Okanagan Valley should help us navigate access issues with land managers.
There are a number of climbing focused organizations in both the Okanagan as well as across BC. The Okanagan Climbers' Association will serve as an entry point for various to connect land managers and other interested parties with the climbing community. If we don't know the answer, we know who will.
The Skaha Climbers' Anchor Repair Society (SCARS) served the Skaha Bluffs from 2015 to 2024. This society collected donations and provided hardware for route maintenance in the Skaha Bluffs. OCA was formed by some of the former SCARS members, with a desire to serve a wider geographic area and a broader mandate.
